Asking someone to choose

Expressing doubt (သံသယကိုေဖာ္ျပျခင္း)

  • I'm not sure.
  • I can't decide.

Asking someone else to decide

  • You choose.
  • It's your choice.
  • The choice is yours.
  • It's your call.
  • It's your decision.
  • You decide.
  • It's up to you.
  • Make up your own mind.
  • I'm happy for you to choose. (formal)
  • Do as you please. (no interest)
  • Do what you want. (no interest)

Expressing indifference (ထူးမျခားနားဟန္ျပျခင္း)

  • I really don't mind. (you don't feel strongly about it)

  • I couldn't care less. (very negative —you have absolutely no interest in it)
  • OK, suit yourself! (this can sound a bit defensive)

Changing Your mind (စိတ္ေျပာင္းျခင္း)

  • Actually, I've changed my mind.
  • On second thoughts, I think I'd rather. . .
  • To be honest, I think I'd prefer to . . .
  • Actually, come to think of it, I haven't got enough time to . . .
  • I've had a change of heart. I think I’d rather. . .
  • Hang on a minute. I think it'd be better to . . . . . .
  • I've had a bit of a rethink and I think . . . . .
  • On reflection, I think it'd be better to . . .

Dialogue

Damien: Shall we go out?

Emma: Great idea! What would you like to do?

Damien:  Well, we could go for pizza. Or, go to the pub. Or, do you fancy seeing that new Leonardo DiCaprio movie? We could even go bowling. What would you like to clo? It's your call.

Emma: Erm... I really don't mind. You decide.

Damien: OK then... the pub. Let's go to the pub.

Emma:  Erm... come to think of it, I went to the pub last night.

Damien:  Oh, OK. How about a pizza then? I know this great new pizza place.

Emma:   I love pizza! Erm... hang on a minute, I had pizza for lunch.

Damien:  Erm, OK. Well, there are only two options left. Bowling or the movies. What do you prefer?

Emma: Erm... I'm not sure. It's your call. It's up to you.

Damien:OK. Let’s go bowling,then.

Emma: Oh, erm... to be honest, I don't really like bowling.

Damien: [getting fed up] I thought you didn't mind what we did. Well, the only option left is the cinema. Are you up for a movie?

Emma:  Sounds great! Let's go.

Damien:  [relieved] Really? Fantastic!

Emma:  Wait a sec!

Damien:  [wary] Yes?

Emma:  What film was it again?

Damien:  The new one with Leonardo Di Caprio.

Emma: What was I thinking? I've already seen it! What were the other three options again?

Damien:  Erm... on second thoughts, I think I'll go out alone.

Emma: Why?

Damien:  Because you're driving me crazy!

Emma: [offended] Suit yourself. It's no skin off my nose.
