Job Title:                                             GBV –Protection Officer

Duration:                                             1 year (extendable based on fund availability)

Main purpose of the role

The purpose of this position is to directly implement the GBV Protection Program at the Myebon community and Taung Paw IDP Camp as well as to ensure support and linkages to the overall Protection Program in Rakhine. The GBV Protection Officer will oversee individual case management for survivors of gender-based violence (GBV). She will supervise GBV and Mental Health Outreach Assistants and GBV volunteers working to create safe, accessible, confidential and welcoming services for women and girls and to provide referral services as needed. The post holder is responsible to deliver results in line with pre-agreed program plans and objectives and oversees the implementation of the Protection activities related to GBV at the Women & Girls Centers (WGCs) and contributes towards achieving the program goal of respond to the protection needs of beneficiaries in Taung Paw camp and Myebon community.

Overall Objectives (scope)

Supervises the implementation of RI GBV Protection activities at Myebon level ensuring appropriate coordination with other program activities and sectors and provide leadership for GBV and Mental Health Outreach Assistants and camp and community based volunteers.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Supervise the GBV and Mental Health Outreach Assistants and provide leadership in the monitoring of GBV prevention and response activities at the WGCS and other RI related GBV activities, ensuring that activities are implemented in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Provide the Protection Program Coordinator with detailed information regarding all GBV protection activities on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Provide on-the-job supervision and training of GBV and Mental Health Outreach Assistants and community and camp-based volunteers on GBV prevention and response.
  • Ensure that GBV Protection policies and standards are understood and met and ensures a safe space atmosphere in the Women and Girls Centers and other spaces relevant to GBV activities.
  • Promote GBV guiding principles throughout all GBV activities; ensure that the voices of women and girls are represented.
  • Ensure that community and inter-sector meetings are conducted to discuss cross-cutting protection issues relevant to GBV.
  • Improve/strengthen coordination of Relief International’s work with the relevant ministries, sectors and other protection agencies.
  • Provide information and advice to other sectors on ways to mainstreaming protection in programs.
  • Develop monthly work plans and reports in advance and present to Protection Program Coordinator.
  • Ensure recognized international best practices and Relief International policies are applied in the work with beneficiaries and partners.
  • Upon the request of the Protection Program Coordinator, represent the Protection program in external meetings and workshops.
  • Prepare and submit financial documentation as required by RI policies.


Person Specification


  • (2-4) years’ experience working in protection (GBV) programming or similar experience in both, development and humanitarian sector preferred
  • Strong background and skills in facilitating trainings, coaching, mentoring others and advocacy
  • Familiarity with key international standards for humanitarian work (e.g. GBV IASC, CP Minimum Standards, SPHERE, HAP Principles)
  • Good command in English and Burmese essential
  • Bachelor degree in Social Work, Human Rights or other relevant field preferable
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and negotiate clearly and effectively at all levels
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Work under limited supervision and ability to work in multi-task environment and under-pressure
  • Commitment to working on behalf of women and girls
