Main purpose of the role

The purpose of this position is to directly implement the Child Protection program at the Myebon community and Taung Paw IDP Camp as well as to ensure support and linkages to the overall Child Protection Program in Rakhine. The post holder is responsible to deliver results in line with pre-agreed program plans and objectives and oversees the implementation of the Child Protection activities at the CFS and Youth Centres and contributes towards achieving the program goal of respond to the child protection needs of children in Taung Paw camp and Myebon community.

Overall Objectives (scope)

Supervises the implementation of RI Child Protection activities at Myebon level ensuring appropriate coordination with other sectors and provide leadership for Child Protection Assistants, camp and community based CFS animators and youth facilitators.


Specific Responsibilities


  • Supervises the Child Protection Assistants and provide leadership in the monitoring of Child Friendly Space by visiting Child Friendly Spaces on a regular basis, ensuring that activities are implemented in an appropriate manner
  • Provides the Child Protection Project Manager with detailed information regarding activities on a weekly and monthly basis (children attendance with breakdown by gender and age, activities carried out, issues affecting programme delivery, material needs)
  • Provides on-the-job supervision and training of CFS Managers, Coordinator and Animators.
  • Ensures that Child Protection Policy and standards are understood and met and ensures a safe and child-friendly atmosphere in the Child Friendly Space
  • Ensure that parents’ and community meetings are conducted and parents and communities understand and adapt positive parenting practices, reducing stress and communicating with children
  • Improve/strengthen coordination of Relief International’s work with the relevant ministries, sectors and other protection agencies.
  • Provide information and advice to other sectors on ways to integrate child protection in more programs.
  • Develop monthly work plans in advance and revise/update them regularly and present to Child Protection Project Manager and implement project activities in accordance with the work plans
  • Assist the Child Protection Project Manager with periodic reporting and technical points
  • Assist in developing training manuals and IEC materials
  • Ensure recognized international best practices and Relief International policies are applied in the work with children.
  • Ensure all work is in line with Child Protection Global Minimum Standards
  • Upon the request of the Child Protection Project Manager, represent the Child Protection program in external meetings and workshops.




  • Extensive experience working in child protection programming or relevant experiences
  • Extensive experience in building strong child protection systems and in delivering services to children in emergencies
  • Strong background and skills in facilitating trainings, coaching and mentoring others
  • Experience in both development and humanitarian sector preferred
  • Proven representation and advocacy skills
  • Familiarity with key international standards for humanitarian work (e.g. CP Minimum Standards, SPHERE, HAP Principles)


  • Fluency in English and Myanmar essential
  • Fluency in Rakhine preferable


  • Bachelor degree in Social Work, Human Rights or relevant field preferable


  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and negotiate clearly and effectively at all levels, taking into account cultural and language difficulties
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Strong results orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mind sets

  • Is able to clearly communicate expectations
  • Work under limited supervision and ability to work in multi-task environment and under-pressure
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
