In the wake of the political, economic and social changes in Myanmar, Switzerland opened an Embassy in Yangon late 2012. Besides the diplomatic representation, the representation of Swiss interests and the promotion of fair and inclusive economic relations, the Embassy of Switzerland in Myanmar manages two important operational programmes: 1) Through its Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the Embassy supports the Myanmar Government and civil society to reduce poverty and to reach the Sustainable Development Goals, especially in rural areas. The thematic domains cover vocational skills development; agriculture and food security; health, social infrastructures and local governance as well as peace promotion, democratisation and protection. Consolidated peace is a prerequisite on which further sustainable development depends. 2) The Embassy of Switzerland in Myanmar has a Peace and Human Rights Advisor and a Human Security Program focusing on the support to peace, democratization and human rights. Switzerland is committed to making a contribution to a peaceful and prosperous future for Myanmar, by supporting the emergence of a more democratic and inclusive polity in Myanmar, as well as promoting human rights. Swiss activities for the promotion of peace and democratization aim to underpin these transitions by assisting political negotiations and the build-up of institutions through which conflicts between the communities are resolved peacefully.

The Embassy is now looking for a dynamic Myanmar national to implement and upscale its communication activities and to fill the position of Communication Officer (CO). We are looking for an outstanding professional, flexible, multi-task, and able to work under pressure and to manage competing demands in a complex organization. The CO will be responsible for the following tasks:
Duties and Responsibilities
working with the Head of Political and Economic Affairs and the management team of the Embassy, implement and further develop the communication and information strategy of the Embassy
develop and update the social media platforms to promote the work of the Embassy (incl. the Embassy’s Facebook page)
ensure that the Embassy website is up-to-date, correct, and useful
prepare information for the local media, organize press conferences or any relevant communication events
produce media content (photos, video, press release) covering events of the Embassy (e.g. National Day, inaugurations, workshops, speeches)
produce and update fact sheets and other publications
timely and quality translation for short communication material
provide communication and media support to cultural as well as technical events organised by the Embassy
actively integrate the inclusion of a gender perspective in all programming activities
ensure that all communications materials produced are in compliance with Embassy of Switzerland/ FDFA branding guidelines and communication protocol
manage an effective network for the realisation of the above tasks.
Qualification and experiences required
Bachelor degree in any field from any recognized university
Minimum 3 to 5 years work experience in media, NGO, business, international organisation in a position relevant to the role
Experience in communication, including social media
Cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity, and able to work with a range of individuals and organizations
Working knowledge of information management including webpage design and social media
Organizational skills and stakeholder management
Proven record of outstanding communication skills, both written and oral (including in front of public audience) both in English and Burmese
Good Burmese typing skills
Able to plan, organize and prioritize workload and meet deadlines
Excellent ICT skills including Microsoft Office programmes (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
