NRC has been present in Myanmar since 2008 and previously assisted the Cyclone Nargis-affected population in Laputta District. Today, NRC’s geographic presence is limited primarily to the conflict-affected areas of the Southeast region bordering Thailand. The principal objective of the Myanmar Country Programme is to respond to new displacements by improving the protection situation of IDPs through the delivery of humanitarian assistance as well as contribute to the sustainable resettlement and integration of IDPs and returnees through the delivery of durable shelter and improving access to quality education and livelihoods.
Through independent implementation, but also in cooperation with UNHCR, SDC, UNICEF, UNOCHA and other actors on the ground, and with funding from the Government of Norway, Sida, and DFID, NRC is currently working in support of IDPs in Myanmar. In addition, NRC is also collaborating in the inter-agency contingency plan for refugee return from Thailand.
With the Country Office located in Yangon, NRC has field offices in Hpa-An, Myeik, Loikaw, and Taunggyi, Thaton and Dawei Townships.
All NRC employees are expected to work in accordance with the organization’s core values: dedication, innovation, inclusivity and accountability. These attitudes and believes shall guide our actions and relationships.
