Mercy Corps is a secular, non-profit, nongovernmental humanitarian organization that has worked amid disasters and poverty since 1979, providing humanitarian relief and development aid in over 40 nations worldwide. Mercy Corps is implementing energy initiative, named Myanmar Stoves Campaign (MSC) operating in the Dry Zone, Mandalay and Magway Regions. MSC aims to improve rural communities’ access to clean stoves and solar products, enhance entrepreneurship opportunities through a market-development approach and expand livelihood opportunities. MSC is Myanmar’s first carbon project.


[Describe overview of job missioGENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

The Program Assistant is a key national staff position within the broader energy portfolio. While everyone on the program team plays a role in results measurement to drive program learning and performance, the Program Assistant will provide overall support for overall project implementation, data collection and entry, data analysis, program market strategy and organization operational works for Energy Program. Program Assistant reports directly to Senior Program Manager, Energy Program while working collaboratively with Senior Program Officers, Field Office Coordinator and energy field team members.


  • Implement the operational works for overall Energy Program to meet the needs of the overall program and donor requirements.
  • Initiate in Carbon data monitoring process in closely coordination with team member, especially with FOC, POs and PAs.
  • Support in building the capacity of all relevant team members and in organizing training, workshops as needed.
  • Support in dealing with partners and in partnership process in closely coordination with SPM and SPO.
  • Support SPO (M&E) in keeping high quality carbon baseline and other databases such as GIS and photo tracking databases.
  • Support in documenting program learnings and producing learning products, such as case studies, hard copies files documents, etc.
  • Support other aspects of Energy Program implementation as assigned.




REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Senior Program Manager, Energy Program



  • Bachelor degree and prefer in a relevant field.
  • Prior relevant experience for NGOs or other development agencies.
  • Experience in program support (administrative work, logistic and procurement, etc.)
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection process and keeping and recording data accordingly.
  • Experience in training and capacity building.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently to project villages, sometimes in remote locations.
  • Strong curiosity for understanding and working in ambiguous situations. He/She will be a tolerant and flexible individual able to work in difficult and stressful environments and follow procedures.
  • Good in spoken and written English and Myanmar.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office packages including Excel, and Power Point.
